My opinion on Jay Park has never been of outstanding praise. What I give him in a positive aspect will always be met with a negative one. Jay’s thing is taking an American sensibility and placing it in the Korean music world.
It’s impressive on some level, but it never feels like he is going to the next one…it just is…I don’t know how to explain it, but it is essentially what is happening in his new song, So Good.
I love the song. It’s fun, energetic, positive, and he does well with it. It actually reminds me of something Bruno Mars would do. It has that funky, R&B sound where all your bullshit is left at the door, and you just have to party to this.
For the black people, this sounds like something you play at the BBQ.
Like I can’t be mad at this song.
The video is fun to watch. It’s nothing innovative. creative, or artistic, and to be honest that is just perfect. You are basically watching Jay hang out with some people, and going places. The only thing you will want to pay attention to is the references to Michael Jackson.
The video had been teased with a pic of Jay in the red leather jacket, which was an automatic hint (Beat It). Then we get Smooth Criminal reference in dance. And one to In The Closet (the white tank top tucked in to tight black pants look).
These were just off the top of my head, as well as the obvious vocal stylings near the end.
Michael Jackson’s birthday was not too long ago so this was cute.
So Good is a fun way to end summer, and I can see it transitioning over into fall. Jay may not be perfect, but when he gets it right, he gets it right.
